The UK Response to Terror

Paris, London, Manchester. Those are the names of some of the recent terrorist attacks suffered by the west at the hands of fundamentalists ,varying in scale and horror. Yet one of the things that link them all is the response. Keep calm and carry on with your normal life. After each of these attacks the same line is repeated to the public. Carry on as normal. A travesty. By uttering those words the leaders of state have decided to call children being blown to pieces and families torn apart something that we should move on through as if it's a normal occurrence.

At the height of the Troubles those who the government suspected of supporting the IRA or being members were arrested and held till they could be cleared of all suspicion. Now? We do nothing. Not when people went to Syria to join the Islamic state or be trained by terrorists, not when a murderer drove a car down Westminster bridge killing 4 and injuring 46 more and not now when a suicide bomber blew up at a concert full of children killing 22 and injuring another 59. What will it take before effective action is taken? Another bombing of children? The state should be taking direct action against Islamic terrorists housed in the United Kingdom. All mosques which have housed radicals should be monitored by the security services to ensure no radicalisation is taking place. All of those who came back from Syria or other terror hotbeds-nearly 425 in total- should be arrested and held indefinitely to prevent them taking action against the citizens of the British Isles, either through terror or the radicalisation and training of other Jihadists. Finally the branches of Islam which spawn such hate and intolerance, like Wahhabism- the state religion of Saudi Arabia the greatest sponsor of terrorism in the middle east and Deobandi,- which spawned the Taliban of Afghanistan and controls 45% of the UK's mosques and nearly all of the UK’s centres of training for Islamic scholars- should be challenged by reason and logic, destroying the blind faith attitude Muslims of these beliefs have. Moderate reformists will never be able to change Islam from within if those who lead the faith in the East, the birthplace of Islam, are from ultra conservative or radical sects.Change must always come, even to those who deny it.

These measures are not extreme or damaging to rights, only those who have committed actions already will be targeted by these actions. These are logical actions taken against those aim to spread terror who are not only killing innocents in a genocidal war designed by manipulated faith and the desire for reward in the afterlife, but also ruining the name of a faith which upholds charity and peace as part of its core values. By removing the source of radicalisation, the radical Imans and the interpretation of Islam they spout, we can begin to rehabilitate those who have been turned to extremism and protect the peaceful society we all hold dear to our hearts. Through the use of reason and rational debate the ideas of grandeur held by these fundamentalists can be challenged and crushed much in the same way extreme christian views were removed from Europe. Religion has always been changed by those who desire to and by coming together as a unified society we can destroy long held prejudices and ensure we have a future of peace, free of terror, free of hate, free to pave the way to a better tomorrow.
